Life in Balance | Mauro De Bettio

Wearing brightly-colored dresses, children dance through the alleys of Kibera – the largest urban slum in Africa. Occupying only 5% of its area, the people in Kibera total more than half of Nairobi’s population. Kibera is suffering from a constant increase in crime, infections, poverty, unemployment, and water scarcity. As a result, children are the only ones who can afford to dream. Project Elimu (knowledge/education in Swahili), is a non-profit organization founded by Kenyan-born Michael Wamaya, a classically trained dance instructor who has been teaching classical ballet since 2009. The organization provides a safe space for children to grow, learn to dance, and acquire important social skills along the way.
