Each of the works in Maria Svarbova’s Swimming Pool series features a different pool, usually built in the Socialist Era, in various locations in Slovakia. The sterile beauty of these old pools is evoked and enhanced by the frozen motion of the figures, the dream-like vibrating colors and the artificial detachment created by Svarbova’s distinctive eye.
