The Nazi Phantom | Dana Arieli

The Nazi Phantom is part of a comprehensive architectural photography project in which Arieli documents remnants of totalitarian political systems primarily active during the twentieth century. The photographs shed light on the structures as relics existing in today’s urban settings, and their instrumental role in the production of present day culture of memory. Arieli began The Nazi Phantom series in 2009, as a direct extension of her research on the Nazi regime, and has since published a trilogy of books: The Nazi Phantom (2014), Phantoms: Journeys Following the Relics of Dictatorships (2016), and The Zionist Phantom (2021). The photographs are the base for an ongoing dialogue between Arieli and the audience, who she encourages to react to the projects via their respective websites.
